Throw your V's up

Hi!

So today I've decided to explain the Villanova V's. From far away they may just look like peace signs but with a closer look and a knowledge of the Villanova Nation this simple hand motion turns into a phenomenon. The first thing you need to know is the fight song for Villanova. Most people do not know the whole song but the beginning is the most important part. It goes "V" for Villanova, "V" for Victory "B" for Blue and "W" for White. At the end of each sporting event (especially men's basketball games) the team comes out and faces the students while the band plays this song. This is when you put your hand in the air give the V. Everyone bounces their hand to the beat of the song to salute the team in their win or loss.

This is just one example of an appropriate time to "throw your V's". It is also appropriate to do this hand signal for a picture or saying hello to another student on campus.

So if you ever on our campus and someone does the peace sign V hand signal give it right back! So now you can fit in here at Villanova! The picture above is from a tailgate for one of our basketball games last weekend. Everyone is wearing their Villanova gear and throwing their V's.

Let's go yanks

Hey,

Just wanted to introduce this symbol and explain it because I realized after I posted my image that you guys might not know what it means. So this assignment is the perfect place! The NY crossing is the symbol for the New York Yankees, a baseball team based out of the state of New York. The Yankees have always been my favorite baseball team and many of their players live in my town! Their main rivals are the Boston Red Sox and I have been to many of those games which usually turn out to be pretty wild. I was also fortunate enough to be at the World Series in 2000 when they won the championship against the New York Mets. The Yankees just built a new stadium (right next to the old one) in the Bronx, NY. It's only a short trip from my house and my dad has season tickets so my family has been to a lot of games together.

The picture of me is from a Yankees game I went to this summer- I try and go a lot they are so much fun!

Cultural Gesture

Hello,

Sorry for the late response, I've been fighting a serious cold here in frigid Philadelphia! But it's good to finally get a post up on the blog. My name is Paul Adler, and I'm a senior at Villanova University here in Philadelphia. I am studying International Relations, but my real passion is DJing and producing house music. I know that the Brazilian house scene is really coming up lately, with great clubs in Rio and Sao Paulo, and artists like Felguk and Dirtyloud tearing up the scene! I wonder if any of our Brazilian friends have heard of these artists?

Anyway, for our assignment today, we are to show our friends in Brazil a cultural gesture from the U.S. I have a particularly good one selected: the "homie handshake," which is the way that me and my friends shake hands when we see each other. It is a gesture that, while seeming on the surface a bit silly, actually conveys great admiration for the other person. I have included a video link to show you what I mean: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-give-a-homie-handshake .

Hope you enjoy!
